REQUIREMENTS · V&V · QUALIFICATION

From requirements to acceptance.

Systems engineering for complex industrial machinery — connecting testable requirements, V&V and qualification with a robust basis for acceptance.

I support manufacturers of complex industrial machinery in structuring technical requirements so they can be tested, linking them to verification and validation evidence, and preparing a defensible basis for acceptance. My particular strength is maintaining the connection from requirements and test logic through to actual system behaviour and customer acceptance.

Services

From system objectives to traceable evidence

Four focused service areas for development, integration and qualification programmes.

Requirements Engineering & Traceability

I structure requirements so teams can understand, test and trace them through to the relevant evidence.

  • Requirements analysis and structuring
  • Testability and clear verification criteria
  • Clarification of interfaces and stakeholder requirements
  • Traceability and change impact assessment across requirements, tests and evidence

Verification & Validation

I develop verification and validation strategies aligned with requirements, risks and real-world use.

  • V&V strategy and evidence planning
  • Selection of appropriate verification and validation methods
  • Risk-based test prioritisation and FMEA
  • Assessment of individual test results and evidence

Machine Qualification & Acceptance

I consolidate evidence, acceptance criteria and open technical issues to establish a robust basis for qualification and acceptance.

  • Qualification planning and structure
  • Consolidation of acceptance criteria and available evidence
  • Assessment of open technical issues and deviations
  • Preparation and support during qualification and acceptance phases

Root Cause Analysis

When problems are complex, I systematically investigate possible causes, test assumptions against observations and available data, and establish a clear basis for the next steps.

  • Structuring complex fault patterns
  • Developing and testing root-cause hypotheses
  • Targeted analysis of observations, test data and technical evidence to narrow down possible causes
  • Cross-functional investigation of technical escalations

Situations

When focused engineering support is needed

Unclear requirements, missing verification evidence or complex technical issues can complicate development and acceptance. I help engineering teams address these challenges systematically.

  • Requirements lack the clarity needed for development and verification

Requirements are unclear, inconsistent or not sufficiently testable, preventing a reliable basis for development and verification.

  • The verification approach is not fully coherent

Requirements, risks, tests and evidence are not consistently linked, leaving gaps in the verification approach.

  • The basis for qualification or acceptance is incomplete

Available evidence, open technical issues and acceptance criteria do not yet provide a sufficiently robust basis for the upcoming qualification or acceptance phase.

  • A complex technical issue has no clear cause

During integration, commissioning, acceptance or field operation, the issue may involve multiple disciplines or interfaces and cannot yet be clearly attributed to one cause.

  • A critical project phase needs additional technical support

A clearly defined technical scope needs to move forward despite a temporary gap in internal capacity or relevant expertise.

Approach

Connect system evidence with operational reality

Systems engineering close to development, informed by practical experience in installation, commissioning, service, acceptance and technical escalation.

Frame the system

Define the problem, system boundary and interfaces together, involving relevant stakeholders. The system boundary is reviewed throughout the project and adjusted as needed.

Build evidence

Make assumptions explicit, hypotheses testable, and deliberately link evidence to requirements, risks and real-world use.

Enable decisions

Present results and options clearly alongside their implications. This allows technical and commercial decision-makers to determine next steps on a sound basis.

Project experience

Practical engineering – from development to field operation

My experience with complex industrial LPBF systems combines international customer assignments with hands-on work in installation, commissioning, system integration, qualification and technical root-cause investigation.

  • 14 countries
  • 5 continents
  • 37 customers

Installation & commissioning

I have installed and commissioned industrial LPBF systems at customer sites. This practical experience sharpens how I assess interfaces and the conditions of later operation.

System integration & qualification

For early-stage systems and demanding acceptance phases, I have supported technical investigation, testing and qualification, working closely with customers, service teams and development engineers.

Root-cause investigation in the field

When technical problems escalated, I investigated root-cause hypotheses, carried out targeted tests and verified corrective actions.

Technical depth with an operational perspective

Portrait of Dominik Schott

As a mechanical engineer and systems engineer, I have over ten years of experience working with complex industrial machinery and systems.

My career has taken me from international service engineering through systems engineering to the role of Senior Systems Engineer. This allows me to combine hands-on system knowledge from the field with development-focused systems engineering experience and to assess requirements, evidence and technical decisions with real system behaviour in mind.

WAYS OF WORKING

Matched to the technical situation

Objectives, priorities and decisions remain transparent to you. I adapt the scope and level of involvement to your technical situation, make interfaces and dependencies transparent, and involve the relevant stakeholders where needed.

Defined work package

I take ownership of clearly scoped tasks in requirements engineering, V&V, qualification or root cause analysis — with aligned interfaces, objectives and deliverables.

Project team support

I strengthen your team during critical development, integration or acceptance phases, working within your existing responsibilities and decision-making structures.

Focused technical assessment

I structure complex technical questions, bring together the relevant perspectives, and establish a traceable basis for decisions.
